If you’re planning a bathroom renovation in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina, or Kentucky, the first question is almost always the same: what’s this going to cost?
The honest answer is that it depends on scope, materials, and the company you hire. Here’s a clear breakdown of what bathroom renovations actually cost in our service area in 2026, and how to think about budget against the project you have in mind.
Three project types, three price ranges
Most bathroom renovations fall into one of three buckets:
| Project type | Typical cost | Timeline | What’s included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cosmetic refresh (DIY) | $200 to $2,000 | A weekend | Lighting, mirror, accessories, paint |
| One-day wet area remodel | $9,000 to $25,000 | 1 to 2 days on-site | Shower or tub demo to studs, custom acrylic install, fixtures |
| Full Bathroom remodel (Baths R Us) | $20,000 to $65,000+ | 3 to 5 days | Shower, floor, toilet, vanity, drywall as needed |
| Full Bathroom (tile-based, other remodelers) | $20,000 to $80,000+ | 3 to 6 weeks | Same scope, dramatically longer timeline |
Costs vary by city, by home, and by finishes chosen. A modest one-day shower replacement in a small Ohio metro will price differently than a premium walk-in shower conversion in suburban Pittsburgh or Charlotte.
The Baths R Us speed advantage
You’ll notice the table above shows our Full Bathroom service finishing in 3 to 5 days, compared to 3 to 6 weeks for a tile-based renovation through another remodeler. The cost is comparable. The disruption to your life is dramatically different.
That speed comes from custom-fit US-made acrylic that doesn’t need tile cure times, W2 install crews who show up every day, and a focused scope that excludes the slowest parts of a renovation (electrical and major plumbing).
What drives the price up or down
Scope
The single biggest driver. A wet-area-only remodel costs a fraction of a Full Bathroom. A Full Bathroom costs less than a true ground-up reconstruction.
Layout changes
Keeping your existing layout saves the most money. Moving a toilet, sink, or shower means new plumbing, which is expensive. Most homeowners keep the layout and update the fixtures, finishes, and surfaces.
Finishes
Premium acrylic finishes, statement vanities, smart toilets, and rainfall shower systems all add real budget. They also create the bathroom you actually wanted.
What’s included vs what’s coordinated separately
A renovator’s quote should make this explicit. At Baths R Us, our quotes cover the wet area, vanity, floor, toilet, and any drywall in scope. They do not cover electrical work, painting, or major plumbing reroutes. Knowing this up front lets you budget the full project, not just the renovator’s portion.

North Carolina (Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro). Costs vary widely by metro. Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham metros price higher; outstate NC is more affordable. One-day wet area remodels typically run $9,000 to $24,000. Full Bathroom remodels typically run $20,000 to $58,000.

Where homeowners typically over-spend
A few patterns show up in bathroom budgets that can add cost without matching benefit:
- Moving plumbing for cosmetic reasons. Unless the existing layout is genuinely broken, keeping plumbing in place saves thousands.
- Premium tile. Tile is expensive to buy, expensive to install, and expensive to maintain. Acrylic delivers the look at a much lower lifetime cost. (Note: Baths R Us doesn’t install tile, stone, or grout.)
- Cheap labor. Low-bid contractors using 1099 subs is the most common path to a project that goes over budget when corrections are needed. W2 install crews with manufacturer-backed warranties cost more up front and less over the life of the bathroom.
Where homeowners typically under-spend (and shouldn’t)
- The wet area system. This is where water meets your house. Don’t cut corners on the shower or tub system itself.
- Waterproofing. Cheap waterproofing is the single most expensive mistake to fix later.
- The installer’s warranty. A lifetime product warranty plus a multi-year labor warranty isn’t optional in a bathroom. It’s the proof the company will stand behind its work.
